Corfe Clubs & Societies
Charity for the Allotments
This village Charity originally owned a field of allotments in the 19th century near the Golf Club lands. The small rents collected provided help to any parishoner in need or distress. In the early 1980's the field fell into disuse and was sold, the proceeds being invested to provide income. The Charity's five trustees are all village residents and the Clerk is Ann Finchett01823 421 392. Any requests for help should be made to her. As well as helping Parishoners the scheme was extended some years ago to help the Queen's Acre (the field abutting the Village Hall) as well as the Village Hall itself.
Corfe WI
After many years of being in existence, our WI has agreed it should be suspended for three years effective January 2009, which is the preliminary to final closure. This sad state of affairs has come about for several reasons one being that no member was willing to serve on the Committee and another was the lack of local active support. If any ladies would like to reverse this and perhaps get a group together of younger people they are most welcome to try. Another possibility is that a new group would be keener to go out to evening meetings. This matter could be taken up with the local executive at Wilton Lodge,11 Trull Road, Taunton TA14PT. 01823 284261 or the national website at www.thewiorg.uk
